Francesco Modena

Data Scientist

From Sassuolo (Modena), Francesco started out studying Physics at the University of Trento. Along the way, he realized that what he was learning could be applied to a variety of fields, so he chose Physics of Complex Systems at Politecnico di Torino for his Master’s, looking into how physics concepts and models can be applied in research fields that are becoming more and more multidisciplinary. It was during his master thesis that he met neuroscience and fell in love with biophysics. For his thesis, he built a machine learning model to classify excitatory and inhibitory neurons based on their functional phenotype. That is when he first worked with MaxLab Live, and it ended up being a turning point: applying for an internship at MaxWell as a data scientist. From data science, his role then ramified also into product management and sales, giving him the chance to keep learning across disciplines and connect technology, science, and users.

Outside of work, he is all about community and creativity: organizing DnD sessions, trivia nights, and intense debates. He published his first fantasy book at 13.
